Box Elder Bugs

– Look for black bugs with red lines on walls.
– See them cluster near windows and attic vents.
– Find dozens on sunny siding in the fall.
– Spot small nymphs near maple or ash seeds.

Exterior perimeter spray in fall before entry; seal all exterior cracks and gaps as primary control; vacuum removal of interior aggregations without crushing to avoid staining.

– Seal exterior cracks, utility gaps, and window frames before box elder bugs aggregate in fall.

– Install or repair door sweeps and window screens.

– Remove or reduce box elder, maple, or ash seed-bearing trees from the immediate property.

– Vacuum interior invaders using a vacuum with a bag and dispose of the bag immediately.

– Apply perimeter residual insecticide in late September before bugs seek overwintering sites.

– Remove box elder saplings near your house yard.

– Vacuum indoor bugs and dispose of the bag outside.
